Description: OUR MAN FLINT by Jack Pearl - Pocket Books 50243 / Dec 1965 - PBO 1st prtg Novelization of the 1966 20th Century Fox spy-spoof comedy film that parodies the James Bond film series. Directed by Daniel Mann and starring James Coburn, Lee J. Cobb, Gila Golan, Edward Mulhare. 16 pages of B&W photos from the film. When a global criminal organization flexes its power over weather and tectonic activity, secret agent Derek Flint (James Coburn) is summoned from retirement to get to the bottom of the matter. While he mulls over whether to take the assignment, he narrowly escapes an assassination attempt, but his spy agency commander, Cramden (Lee J. Cobb), is nearly mortally wounded. Vowing to take the fight to the enemy, Flint treks through Europe hot on the trail of femme fatale spy Gila (Gila Golan). The film contains direct nods to James Bond in a comedic and outlandish style. Flint is initially offered a Walther PPK and an attache case with a concealed throwing knife with Flint dismissing both as "crude". During the French strip club sequence, Flint stages a mock brawl with a patron who is identified as Agent 0008, a British secret agent. Flint asks if SPECTRE (the criminal organization in the early Bond movies) is involved, to which Agent 0008 replies, "It's bigger than SPECTRE!" The actor playing the role is similar in appearance to Sean Connery. Later in the film, Gila is shown reading a 0008 novel, a reference to the James Bond novels.
