Unlike many other famous urban parks, it is renowned for its combination of nature and architecture. The 1,400 acre "City Park" was founded in 1868, and in 1909 the idea of a grandiose park was formulated in order for San Diego to host the Panama–California Exposition of 1915–1916. This painting is vibrant and loosely painted, yet nicely defined, on rough watercolor paper. Its primary colors are warm in nature with various greens, browns and reds. It is signed on the upper right side. Wonderful piece for the California Collector.Artist Bio: Jay Andrews 11/25/1922 - 03/26/2019Longtime La Mesa California artist Jay Andrews was known as the Plein Air Painter Extraordinaire, and by all accounts was a friend to all.Born in California but raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Andrews loved to draw and paint as a child. As an adult, he went on to serve as a pilot in the United States Air Force.After retiring from the Air Force, Andrews earned his architect license at the University of California and practiced in La Mesa for 50 years. He was still designing and remodeling homes into his late 80’s.In his 90s, Andrews could often be found painting in remote places. Two of his favorite places to paint were El Capitan and Lake Murray.
