Description: This is an original stone lithograph created in the 1930's by an anonymous artist. It features the image of the Pierrot (clown) trying to get the attention of Colombine. Pierrot (French pronunciation: [pjεʁo]) is a stock character of pantomime and Commedia dell'Arte whose origins are in the late seventeenth-century Italian troupe of players performing in Paris and known as the Comédie-Italienne; the name is a hypocorism of Pierre (Peter), via the suffix -ot. His character in postmodern popular culture—in poetry, fiction, the visual arts, as well as works for the stage, screen, and concert hall—is that of the sad clown, pining for love of Columbine, who usually breaks his heart and leaves him for Harlequin. It measures 21.5" x 31.75" and is in excellent condition (please note that standard excellent condition allows for very minor handling wear at edges). It has been archivally mounted onto linen to preserve and protect the fragile paper of the poster. We have been collecting original, vintage posters for 30 years, and have decided to sell some of our inventory at very attractive prices.
