The artist Kees Van Dongen is a well-known painter who created this image in his painting style. He uses French national colors of red, white, and blue in the image. He was a Dutch painter whose career took off after he exhibited in Paris in 1905 along with early work of Henri Matisse and others. At this time, both of these artists were part of the Fauvist movement, which was characterized by the use of bold, bright colors.
