Description: Kuno Binks (1908-1992) was a Dutch born painter, printmaker and book illustrator. His primary artistic style was realism. He was very much influenced by many if the primary themes of the early 20th century. These included the reactions to the horrors of WWI; the shifts in the political world; the rise of the machine age; and the changing face of the art world. The artwork for sale is an amazingly detailed small etching (a miniature) depicting a bustling ship and harbor scene. The image in the mat window measures 3 and 1/2" high and 4" across. The artwork in the textured mat (which is time stained at the outer edges) is 8 and 1/2" by 10 and 1/2". The drypoint etching is signed in pencil "Kuno Briggs" at the lower right (photo 12). The paper on which the etching is printed appears to be attached to the textured paper mat. The mat could easily be recut (to eliminate the sun struck or darkened portions) without harming the artwork. Please note the detailed features of this little gem. These include the elaborate rigging of the boat, the structures of the bridges and buildings in the background and the poses of the longshoremen and sailors on and around the vessel (see photo 3 for a closeup). This is a real conversation piece indeed!
