Description: Original Signed Latvian Expressionist Drawing Church Procession Beggars ca. 1910 Original Signed Likely Latvian Expressionist Drawing Religious Procession with Beggars circa 1910, Pre World War I. This is a lovely Early 20th century Expressionist pencil drawing Religious Procession with Beggars circa 1910, Pre World War I. It appears to show the a religious village procession through the town with maidens with flowers and veils in their hair following the clergy and there are beggars on the side of the road asking for alms. I assume that this is Latvian in origin, but it could also be German or Russian, as it is certainly pre-WWI, and there were many artists that lived in one city and travelled to another to study or work. I purchased this from the same Los Angeles collection, where I purchased an important painting by Latvian artist, Johan/Janis Valters, (also known as Janis Valters-Kurau), which makes me think that this painting is also by a Latvian artist. The signature on the lower right corner appears to be J. R. Grinbergs or something similar. Measurements: framed: 16 x 16 x 1 inches; drawing: 7 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches Weight: 2 lb 13oz Condition: Good condition. Drawing has a crease mark. Professionally matted and framed under glass.
