Description: Mauritis Cornelis Escher (1898-1972) was a Netherlands born illustrator and printmaker. He is well listed and he is considered one of the world's most famous graphic artists. His images were used in books, prints, currency design and many other venues. He is noted for his "impossible" drawings which are characterized by unique perspective, optical illusions, realistic depictions of fantasy spaces and the metamorphosis of objects or subjects. A large collection of his artistic output can be found at the National Gallery of Art. The artwork for sale is an original, bold ink drawing of cryptic letters or symbols. The piece is signed in pencil at the lower right (photo 2) and again on the back (photo 9). The piece measures 2 and 1/2" high and 12 and 1/2" across. The image consists of white horizontal and vertical geometric patterns that stand out against the black ink background. Looks like Oriental currency designations or letters/word symbols. Seller cannot guarantee that the artwork is by the hand of Escher. It is being sold as "in the manner of MC Escher".
