A career interview with musician Bob Like by Dave Moran In 1963, at the young age of 5, Bob received his first drum kit for Christmas. Already knowing how to play the new hit single ‘Wipeout’, he spent his early years playing drums in basement bands with his cousin and neighborhood friends. As he grew older, he turned his musical talents toward playing guitar. In 1979, at 69053 Grove St, Richmond, MI, influenced by his good friend Dave Rabine's thundering vocals, whaling harmonica and slide guitar talents, they started the 'Grove Street Blues Band' a.k.a. 'Bad Connection' later called the ‘Grove Street Band’. For the better part of the eighties and early nineties they performed in Blues venues on the eastside of Detroit and played several private gigs such as the ‘Detroit Yacht Club - Belle Isle’ and ‘Gross Point Yacht Club.’ During the early eighties Bob’s zeal to know more about music led him to study music theory with ‘Professor Steve Sini’, thus giving him the knowledge and foundation needed for his future career in songwriting. Bob also attended and graduated from 'The Recording Institute of Detroit' on February 15, 1984. Bob’s musical quest continued as he moved to the upper peninsula in 1988 and settled in Marquette Michigan. He became more involved with sound reinforcement and stage and studio production. This is when Bob's songwriting and behind the scenes organizing interests began advancing and his God given talents matured. Bob played lead guitar with the ‘Hobby Blues Band’ and ‘Under the Radar’ also playing bass for the ‘Hound Dogs’ and guitar with Gess Wachter and Robin Smith and ‘Drive’. He also played the drums again with the ‘Cedar Savages’ during the 2000’s. Bob was blessed with 'North Forest Music Studio' in 2001, a professional home studio to help promote his musical talents and recording career. After being a closet Christian for most of his life, Bob's turning point in Christ came September 2018 after his 5th heart procedure. Having been drained and broken hearted, with tear filled eyes he asked God "what can I do for You?!" That led to the LORD blessing Bob with the privilege of penning, performing and recording His Songs, which are currently available and labeled as Original Contemporary Christian Music. All Songs are ‘GodSongs’ and ‘Holy Spirit Inspired’. His first album, “Seeds of Salvation,” was released globally on September 1, 2020. As Bob would say: “Follow through with what He puts before you each day and His blessings will overflow!” His next album, with the global release date of 3/21/2021, is titled “God is love”. Again, the melody and lyrics of the title track were delivered in a very special divine way. As Bob tells it, “It started when my pastor asked me to perform 'Go tell it on the Mountain' for the Hope Avent service....that's when the LORD got me thinking. So, I asked God if there was a Song He wanted me to do for the coming Love Avent. The original Song He sent me had a very involved arrangement with lyrics reflecting a testimonial (that Song later turned out to be 'LORD I Need You').” “Because of the involved arrangement and with little lead time before performance, I wasn't ready to perform that Song. So early the Tuesday morning before Love Avent Sunday, I asked God if there was something else I could do for Him..? BAM!! Just like that, the lyrics, melody and arrangement for 'God is love' was there. Praise God! When I arrived that Tuesday evening for our church dinner, I was so excited about the new Song, I shouted out "got a new Song! - came this morning!" My brother in Christ Jared shouted right back "is that the name of it! - came this morning!?” I hesitated, then said "no, but it could be". Later that evening I asked God if there was something He wanted me to do with 'came this morning?’ BAM!! just like that, in a matter of just a few minutes the Song 'Came This Morning' was done! So, the Song 'Came This Morning' is about the writing of the Song 'God is love' both penned the same day within 12 hours of each other - Praise God! God is good! God gets the glory!” AMEN!
