Notes: Joseph Lee worked for Strand Magazine and Pall Mall Gazette before joining the Sunday Express. From 1934 to 1966 Lee worked for the London Evening News which featured his very popular ‘London Laughs’ series of joke drawings. These were the first non-political topical cartoons in Britain. Provenance: This came from the collection of actor John Savident (1938-2024), who acted in Coronation Street as Fred Elliot for about 12 years, plus many other acting roles.
