Description: Very Rare First (and only) Print Run 1964 18"x 24" Surfer Magazine Surf Shop Poster Announcing Phil Edwards as the Very First Surfer to be Awarded the First Place in the Surfer Magazine Poll of 1963 (see Surfer Mag, Vol 5, No.3). The award was announced at an awards party in 1964 and the magazine produced a large poster to advertise the award, dated 1964 and using an excellent photograph of Phil Edwards shot by Bev Morgan at Oceanside. I have not seen any poster from this print run, ever. It came into my possession at an auction conducted by Rick Ralston (Crazy Shirts, Hawaii) in 1984. Excellent condition with no major stains or scratches. Two horizontal fold marks are present since the piece was not stored rolled up. However, those two fold marks do not produce any significant distraction or damage and, most likely, if the print is mounted with a hot mount or with art appropriate glue, the folds will disappear as the print is rolled out. Please do your research, if you will. I have included some screen shots that show the actual photograph used for this poster. This poster represents a poster style that had just come into popularity using solarized photographics, the most well-known of which was a poster for the movie "The Endless Summer" done by John Hamersveld. Shipping will be in a heavy duty tube and insured, costs to be split equally between buyer and seller. Thank you for viewing!
