Description: Genuine original antique color lithographed 1903 plat map of a section of southeast Cleveland when it was still part of Newburgh Township. The coverage area is centered on what is today East 116th Street and East 131st Street, between the eastern boundary of the City of Cleveland and Warrensville Township, north of Calvary Cemetery. The map is drawn on a scale of 400 feet to the inch, and the image area measures a generous 40 x 67 cm [15¾" x 26½"]. Details include the route of the Cleveland Electric Railway along Miles Avenue, Harvard Street, Avon Street, the Erie Railroad, Corlett Station, the American School Furniture Company, the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad, Miles Avenue Station, property of the Schatzinger-Dickle Real Estate Company, Way Street, and Watterson Street. There had been little development in this area when the map was printed, and there are many large open lots, with the names of property owners and lot sizes. Newburgh Township was annexed by the City of Cleveland shortly after this map was printed, and in 1906 the city decided to rename its streets. Windfall Avenue on this map became East 131st Street and Rice Avenue became East 116th Street, for example. The map is titled Newburgh: South Middle Part and was published by H.B. Stranahan & Company, Cleveland. It is copyrighted © 1903 below the title. Condition: It is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with a vertical center fold, as issued, and no marks, rips, or tears. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. This is an original, authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. It offers a fascinating window into the area's early history and would make a handsome display in your den or office. It would also make a perfect gift, and we'll include our helpful framing tips for your reference. We will ship the map to you carefully rolled in a sturdy tube so it will reach you safely.
