It was published in the 1896 edition of Andrees Allgemeiner Handatlas by Velhagen and Klasing, Bielefeld and Leipzig, Germany. By using chromolithography, and reproducing the maps from zinc plates that were etched in relief (just like letterpress printing), the Velhagen and Klasing firm was able to offer highly detailed and extraordinarily beautiful maps. This map is titled "Frankreich, Südliche Hälfte," in the upper margin and is drawn on a scale of 1:1,750,000. Details include railroads, canals, telegraph cables, cities, towns, departments, rivers, bridges, and lakes, with topography drawn in relief. The image area measures a generous 36.3 x 45 cm [14¼" x 18"], and the map's coverage includes France south of Poitiers, along with northern Spain and an inset of Corsica. Condition: This map is in excellent condition, bright and clean, printed on a heavy paper stock, with a vertical center fold, as issued, and no marks, rips, or tears.
