Description: Original 1794 antique engraved map of northwestern Russia — from the Gulf of Bothnia to the Urals, south to Riga and Kirov. The image area measures 19 x 22 cm [7½" x 8½"], and the map labels cities, political subdivisions, and natural features, including Russian Lapland, Novogorod, the Luza River, and Archangel. The waters above the Arctic Circle are labeled "Frozen Ocean." Finland was part of Sweden when this map was drawn. The map is titled "Northern Part of Russia, or Muscovy in Europe," and it was published in A New Geographical, Historical and Commercial Grammar and Present State of Several Kingdoms of the World, by William Guthrie, London, in 1794. There is a mileage scale, in British Miles, below the title, and longitude is measured from London. This is an original, authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. Condition: This map is in excellent condition, with a bold, crisp impression and no rips or tears. It is uncolored, as issued, and there's a tiny spot in the right margin, outside of the image area. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. It would make a handsome display in your den or office. It would also make a perfect gift, and we'll include our helpful framing tips for your reference, along with a copy of the dated title page of the book in which it was published. Buy with confidence!
