Organic Stellaria Media "Common Chickweed 2023 Seeds~Annual Medicinal Edible

Description: NOTE: I try to keep the cost with free shipping on small seed orders as low as possible by using first class letter mail without tracking. It works well, but sometimes is a little slow and very occasionally they don't show up at all. In order to be able to keep using this low cost service on Ebay, PLEASE do not open a case if you do not receive the seed order. There is no way for me to provide tracking for an open case, and they punish me for USPS mail failures. JUST MESSAGE ME DIRECTLY and let me know you haven't received them, and I'll resend them out for you. Look for the seeds (unless you pay for first class package with tracking) in your regular letter mail in a white envelope with a butterfly or flower sticker on it. Thanks a bunch!!!!!!.... Ava***************************************************************************************************Fresh 2023 Seeds~ Harvested this Spring Stellaria Media "Common Chickweed"Other possible nick names: Winterweed, Chickenwort, Mouse-ear Choose from 50 to 200 seeds I have to say that this is another one of those plants that most people these days consider to be a "WEED" that needs to be eradicated.... that after getting to know it well and growing it for a while, and doing research on it....... I have come to understand is a POWERHOUSE that every gardener should be growing!!! Highly nutritious, easy to grow, great for animals to graze on, terrific winter ground cover plant, folk remedy.......just another one, in a long (and continually growing) list of those plants that do not get the respect that they deserve in our "modern" society. Considered a cool weather plant because it usually remains green throughout the winter in most regions. For 1 and 2, it may die back when temperatures reach around 0 degrees Fahrenheit and remain there for several days. Seeds will then germinate in early spring, giving the appearance that the plant is a perennial. In temperate mild climates, the plant can be short lived perennial, and may remain alive for a couple of seasons or more. But typically, either a harsh winter, or the hot dry summer heat with cause it to dye. And seeds dropped will germinate in the fall and early winter. The plant produces a lot of seeds, so will easily reseed even if the mother plants die, making it seem as if they are long lived perennials. This, and the fact that it grows densely, and generally low to the ground, makes it an excellent ground cover. Chickweed CAN however grow to as much as a foot tall with optimal conditions (it thrives with a lot of rain and well draining humus filled soil) so may occasionally need to be trimmed back or mowed if used as a ground cover, depending on the location. It has smooth foliage with some small hairs on the stems, and the stems have an elastic like cord inside which makes it easy to identify from other plants. Just pull a stem and you'll see this stretchy cord on the inside of them. The foliage and stems of this plant are very succulent like. They have tiny little star like white flowers with yellow centers. The common variety that grows primarily wild in disturbed plots like tilled gardens, crop fields and meadows, etc.... does not have a very prolific bloom to it. The blooms are very small, and although very pretty, they are not super close together, so they don't make much of an impact visually. The plant got it's nickname because chickens are CRAZY about this stuff!!! They will munch away on it when they find a patch, and unless it's a big patch, they'll eat it down to nubs. So if you're planning to grow it for you chickens, plant a LOT of seeds. But just like with a lot of other wild edibles, the chickens will lead you to the good stuff!!! And this plant is an excellent food source for humans as well. With high levels of Vitamins and essential minerals, combined with a mild delicious flavor, it's perfect for throwing fresh into your salads, pestos, etc... and works well with many recipes. The medicinal and folk remedy uses of this plant date back centuries. It's said to treat inflammation, obesity, skin irritations, and more. Essential oil made with chickweed leaves and stems makes a great topical skin treatment for rashes, burns and bites. Information about the herbal/medicinal uses of chickweed is easy to find online. Chickweed does not transplant well, so it's best to sow the seeds right where you want the plants to be. For instance, Scatter seeds in the understory of your taller garden vegetables, keep moist until the plants are a couple of inches in height. Some sunlight is required, but even if they are shaded by the plants above it, they will germinate just fine. The plants will do well in full sun or part shade. It will grow in most any soil type, but does really well here where I have a clay based soil amended with compost and I continually add new layers of organic mulch to break down into the soil. General rule is not too heavy, and not soggy (with most plants) Germination time: 7-10 days Planting Depth: 1/4" to 1/8" Sunlight: will germinate best with a little bit of light, so sow the seeds pretty close to the surface Plant Spacing: 6" minimum **********************************************************************SHIPPING: I ship individual orders of small and tiny seeds in regular first class letter envelopes without tracking to save you on shipping costs. *****If you order 4 or more seed items, order larger sized seeds, or large volumes of one seed type, I will send in a padded envelope with tracking automatically with the free shipping option. *****You can request 1st class shipping with tracking, or priority mail/priority express shipping with any order. If you chose "FREE SHIPPING", please note that many times you will not receive a tracking number when your order is marked complete. If you do not receive your seed order within 2 weeks of the date you ordered, contact me, and I'll resend your order. I do not give refunds or accept returns on seeds, but I will most certainly resend an order that does not show up due to USPS incompetence.
