Description: OPUNTIA ARBUSCULA or CYLINDROPUNTIA ARBUSCULA- Called "Bush Cholla", "Pencil Cholla", "Arizona Pencil Cholla". Properly now the name is Cylindropuntia arbuscula, originally Opuntia arbuscula (Engelm.) F. M. Knuth. The local O'odham name is "Wipinoi". Nice fresh 7 inch or larger clean cutting from our plants. Cuts treated with Rootone root growth hormone to help with sure rooting. A pretty native of the Sonora Desert of Arizona, and Northern Sonora Mexico and is not really common. Very attractive yellow to orange flowers when blooming generally in May, this plant can have long spines, many glochids- makes great security fence! The fruits can be eaten when ripe, green fruits can be boiled and eaten as a veggie. Winter hardy and fairly easy to grow in most climates where it does not freeze for long periods of time. These like sandy soils like the desert flats they are found in naturally. These can reach from 1 to as much as 9 feet high! There seems to be a great variation in the thickness of the stems and the amount of spines on these in the wild, our plants seem to have thicker stems and fewer spines than many we have observed. These are 'stock photos' of large mature plants in the 'wild', you will receive cuttings from our cultivated plants. We do not have a lot of this plant available- only a few cuttings. We are rooting more, probably ready by late summer, we will list the rooted specimens when ready. The segments of these are easily detached, especially in shipping, but all these small segments will grow. We always to include a little extra. FREE SHIPPING in the United States!
