Description: VERY RARE / One-of-a-kind Toilet Set from 1895 Homer Laughlin Florentine Line Toilet Ware Set - White Ironstone with Gold Trim and Decoration Number 1240 featuring a flying bird and swirl floral design. Very rare set from early Homer Laughlin days with this set of toilet ware from the ever elusive Florentine line! When will you get a chance at another set collectors??!! Very beautiful decal with the organic melon like shape to the pieces and with a face built into the handles of the water ewer and chamber pot - Florentine has some very detailed molding of garland and scrolls along the edges of the pieces. Beautiful White ironstone with gold trim lines and very art nouveau decal. Included in this set are the following items: Large water basin, Large Water Ewer Pitcher, a Chamber pot (no lid), Covered Soap dish WITH oval insert (very hard to find these and this one is in excellent condition), Shaving Mug, AND Brush Jar! All pieces have the the Eagle-over-lion backstamp too! This rare set could be the centerpiece piece set of your early toilet ware from Homer Laughlin or could also be used as a great home / farmhouse decor - beautiful antique pieces! An excellent set to display and have! The Homer Laughlin China Company began making toilet ware in the 1880s. Over a dozen different shapes were made until it was finally phased out in the late 1920s. Sets were made for the home as well as for use in hospitals and hotels. A standard set for the home was made up of: a chamber pot - usually a one handled bowl with a lid, a slop jar - larger than a chamber pot with handles on either side, a combinet - similar to a slop jar, but with a wire handle, a covered soap dish - often with a circular insert, shaving mug, brush jar, two sizes of ewers, and a basin. Approximate Measurements for the pieces: This Chamber Pot (without lid) measures 10" in diameter at widest point including handle, 5-1/2" in height.The Water Basin measures 14-3/4" in diameter at widest point, 5-1/4" in height.The Water Ewer measures 10" in diameter at widest point including handle, 9-1/4" in height.The Covered Soap Dish measures 6" in diameter at widest point, 4" in height including handleThe Brush Jar measures 4-1/2" in diameter at widest point, 4-1/2" in height.The Shaving Mug measures 4-1/2" in diameter at widest point including handle, 3-1/2" in height. No chips or cracks on the covered soap dish, insert, shaving mug, or water ewer. All of the pieces have at least some light under the glaze crazing, typical of antique pottery, does not distract, only adds to the beauty of this set. The large basin has a small, tight, and old hairline crack along one edge and a couple small dings on the side walls that are only noticed upon very close inspection. The brush jar has a few tight, stable, old hairline cracks from the upper rim down the side walls. The chamber pot has one small hairline crack along the edge and a couple small dings with age staining on the side walls that blend in with the decal for the most part. The pieces are going to have some small factory production imperfections such as sand bumps, glaze pops, glaze misses possible - all normal factory production. Little issues with this set considering age and rarity- very bright white color and shiny glaze along with the decal - some wear to gold trim lines as expected from age, use, and handling!
