Description: Ola Gorie Silver Scarf Brooch A lovely vintage, circa 1990's, Ola M Gorie, sterling silver, Celtic penannular style scarf brooch. Brooch has a fixed decorative pin across the front, replicating the traditional Scottish penannular brooch, which would have had this pin hinged and moveable to fix the brooch in place; Ola's brooch is secured on the back with a modern roll-over clasp. Brooch measures approx. 40mm in diameter, with the decorative pin measuring 50mm across. Unusual markings to this brooch; this is a well known Ola Gorie design which is not especially rare. The Ola Gorie marks have been removed; although some evidence of them still remain and another set of hallmarks added. The newer marks indicate it was assayed for silver (again) at Edinburgh (after 1999; no date letter); we have no idea why someone would remove the original hallmarks and then pay to have it rehallmarked. In excellent unpolished condition; the silver has the usual fine scratches and wear to be expected on a vintage piece. Presented in a relatively modern gift box; as shown.
