Description: Purchased from Ben Wright Vintage Watches in the UK, a renowned expert in his field and on the Antiques Roadshow, this is a very rare 2777-1 Royal Air Force pilots watch from 1953. 37mm. diameter steel case unpolished and in wonderful condition. Big strong lugs with fixed bars, original crown, case back cover with perfect military markings and reference number to the reverse. Perfect tritium dial with original lume, original dagger hands with original lume and original sweep centre. This 1953 Omega is in remarkably original condition considering that it has seen military use. The dial and hands are perfect and untouched, the case is unpolished and looks fantastic and has fixed bars to the lugs, it has the original crown and the original caliber 283 movement. The 1953 batch were part of an exclusive one year order from the British Royal Air Force, a limited number of only 5900 pieces were produced for pilots & officers. The numbers on the cover are sequenced as follows - 6645-101000 is the NATO code - 6B/542 is the aircrew history 1500/53 is the stores number & year of order. These watches were all ordered to be both antimagnetic and chronometer certified, and they were encased in soft iron to prevent magnetism from the aircraft instruments that may have affected its performance during military operations. Hodinkee wrote a feature on this particular watch, and I suggest any interested buyers read it. This watch is also accompanied by a rare extract from the omega archives that confirms its provenance and history. This watch works perfectly, but has not been tested for timekeeping accuracy. US only sale. Buy with confidence.
