He is considered the founder of the University of Strasbourg, the origins of which date back to the Gymnase Jean-Sturm which he founded in 1538 in Strasbourg. The Gymnasium was the origin of the Protestant Academy (1566), which would soon become the University of Strasbourg in 1621.
