Description: Here is an old, black and white photo of a church interior decorated for Christmas. There is garland hanging from the ceiling attached to the wall surrounding the altar. The altar is covered with greens and flowers. Looks like two windows on either side of the alter inset. There are two wall lights with large white shades hanging on either side of the altar and a hymn board with 3 hymn numbers on the wall on one side. On the back the photo was made into a real photo post card and addressed to Mr. J. W. Trostle of 335 W. Cumb. St. Lebanon, Pa. It was from J. C. Trostle, I can't read all of the postmark, but it might have been sent from Shiremanstown, which is located in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, there is no date, either. I believe that Cumb St. is Cumberland Street which is in Lebanon. Doing some research, I found J. W. Trostle (1879-1946), the son of Cornelius and Mary (Schaeffer) Trostle. He was born in Cumberland Springs, Cumberland Co., and died in Lebanon, Lebanon Co., PA. He was an electrician for the Crescent Truck Co. and was married to Phoebe Gruber. They are buried in Cornwall Cemetery, Cornwall, PA. J. C. Trostle, who sent the card, could be John C. Trostle (1894-1956), who was born in York County, PA and died in Lemoyne, PA. He was the son of William and Alice (Wise) Trostle. He was married to Alva Sherman and was a switch tender for the Pennsylvania Railroad and also an insurance agent. However, in the 1910 census he is listed as a carpenter, which makes sense since in the message he wrote that he was still pounding pegs. He also writes that this is the interior of Bether Church, here. Maybe he means Brethren? The photo is clear, but does have some marks on it from age and storage. There are some rough spots around the edges and corners. The back has some discoloration. It was a RPPC and is written on and has a postmark and stamp. Neat old photo postcard for anyone who collects Christmas memorabilia, local history, or is researching the Trostle family. Postage will be 4.75 to the U. S. IF OUTSIDE THE U. S., PLEASE USE THE POSTAL CALCULATOR TO DETERMINE THE COST OF POSTAGE. If you like old photographs and ephemera, please check out my EBay store and the other old photos I have listed. Many different subjects, time periods and places! I mail all my old photos in padded envelopes with cardboard to keep them from being bent. Thank you!
