Description: We are delighted to offer this rare, heavily-potted white porcelain jar made during the latter part of the Joseon (Choson) Dynasty (1392 - 1910), probably the 18th or 19th century. It is characterized by a classic rounded form with a short mouth lip and base ring. Over the soft white glaze on the voluminous body is an abstract motif brushed around the upper and lower body in dark iron blue, with a band painted on the edge of the mouth. The firm, unrestrained brush strokes effectively convey a strong sense of movement and are done with such efficiency and beauty that it suggests that the painting was made by a professional artist rather than the potter. A stellar piece. It measures approximately 4.2” high x 3.75” diameter and is signed on the base.
