Description: Large and colorful modern expressionist painting of a herd of running bulls. "Running of the Bulls". Circa 1960s. By 20th c. American Spanish artist John Fulton Short (1932-1998).Fulton was born in Philadelphia PA. As a boy, he studied bullfighting and art in Mexico. He studied for a year at The Philadelphia Museum of Art. In 1956, he moved to Seville, Spain to become a bullfighter, becoming only the second American to become a professional bullfighter in Spain. He also continued his art, painting the large posters for the most famous bullfights in Spain. He is best known for his drawings and paintings of bulls. Fulton also illustrated the book “Miracle in Sevilla” by James Michener as well as creating a series of hand colored lithographs of Basenji dogs. His work is in collections of the Bullfighting Museum of Seville, Yale University Art Library, Sports Illustrated Library, and the Kennedy Library.Oil on canvas.Signed John Fulton (Fulton dropped the surname Short as it was too difficult to pronounce in Spanish).Measures 39 1/2" x 32".Framed size 40 1/2" x 33".Very good condition.
