ODDIBE McDOWELL was a popular member of the 1984 USA OLYMPIC TEAM and he highly regarded as he entered the MLB Draft. He was the Nation's Golden Spikes Winner as the top collegiate baseball player while playing at Arizona State University, The Florida-native was selected in the first round by the Texas Rangers, also spent time with the Cleveland Indians and Atlanta Braves during his 10 season MLB career. Overall he hit .253 with 74 homers and 266 RBI and was generally considered an above average baserunner and defensive centerfielder. He was inducted into the NCAA College Baseball Hall of Fame and now is a Head Coach at a prominent Hollywood, Florida High School. itched for a dozen MLB seasons with the Cubs, Giants, Padres, Orioles, Rangers and Angels. He was born in West Germany to a US Air Force family of 5 children and moved frequently until settling in Tampa, Florida. He didn't play baseball until he was 12, stunted by asthma. He got a commission to go to the USAF Academy but failed his physical and walked on at the Univ of Arizona to become a professional pitcher. He represented the USA at the 1979 Pan Am Games, played in the 1980 College World Series and was a 1980 Cubs draft pick. Overall he was 58-72 with a 3.43 ERA, 719 strikeouts and 101 saves. He hit a walk off home run in extra innings in 1986, the last pitcher to ever do so. After retirement, he coached in the Blue Jays and Oakland A's associations.
