Description: British Parliament 1925 Vintage Lithograph Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Observatories and Their Work - 1931 Astronomical Pages Some time ago, I acquired two damaged copies of Splendour of the Heavens - a Popular Authoritative Astronomy by Rev. T. E. R. Phillips & Dr. W. H. Steavenson, 1931 editions, considered to be one of the best early 1900's text on astronomy. I have been able to save some of the pages and illustrations. This is a collection of 30+ various pages showing historical photographs and illustrations of observatories. Only a few pages shown. Many full page and most pages have additional illustration on reverse. Great 1930s astronomical history. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.
