Description: Noritake Oval 9.25"x 6.5" Vegetable Bowl Japan The Magenta Blue w/Gold 1918-1931 Exquisite Decorative 9 1/4" X 6 1/2" OVAL 2 HANDLED Footed OPEN VEGETABLE BOWL, The Magenta Pattern BLUE w/ GOLD, Wide Band & Gold Trim, from Japan, Noritake M-in-Wreath 1918-1931 DESCRIPTION: The beautiful bowl was produced in The Magenta pattern of blue, pink & orange florals with scrollwork on white. The design looks so classic. There are yellow bands with gold scrollwork next to the rim. The rim is trimmed in gold whereas the foot was never trimmed in gold. CONDITION: While this bowl is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks on the white center part in the bottom of the bowl. There is slight wear to the gold on one handle and no wear to the gold on the other handle. DIMENSIONS: The oval bowl is 9 1/4" by 6 1/2". The bowl's height is 2". HISTORY/MARKS: Morimura Bros. formed the trading and decorating company in 1876 which evolved into Noritake. Noritake Company has a rich history of producing porcelain china all the way from January 1, 1904 when the Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd - the forerunner to the present Noritake Company - was formed in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan with its huge kaolin clay sources. The first reported U.S. registry for a Noritake backstamp for importing is 1911. The backstamp on this piece is the red & yellow M-in-Wreath Mark with Noritake on the top. Under that is "Made in Japan" with the pattern name "The Magenta" in a ribbon banner under the wreath. In Collecting Noritake A to Z Art Deco & More, David Spain shows that Noritake substituted Japan for Nippon in their backstamps starting in 1918.
