Noritake 2 Bread & Butter Plates Japan 1948-1953 Goldkin Floral Gold Black HTF

Description: Noritake 2 Bread & Butter Plates Japan 1948-1953 Goldkin Floral Gold Black HTF Exquisite Decorative Set of 2 BREAD & BUTTER or DESSERT PLATES, GOLD & BLACK FLORAL Band w/Gold Trim, GOLDKIN #4985, from Noritake, Japan, circa 1948-1953 DESCRIPTION:  These beautiful hand decorated bread & butter plates were produced in a beautiful black floral pattern on the wide gold band.   Each piece has the same colorful decoration.  The design looks so classic.  The floral bands are on light cream while the center of the plates is the high white of the porcelain.  All rims are trimmed in gold.  This makes a beautiful display set or can be used everyday as a functional set.  We have many more of this GOLDKIN pattern items in our eBay store.  Please pay close attention to the Pattern #4985 (the oldest one) since Noritake has several Goldkin patterns. CONDITION:  While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb.  There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines.  There are no utensil marks & no wear to the gold. DIMENSIONS:  The dessert plates have a diameter of 6 3/8" with a height of 5/8". HISTORY/MARKS:   Morimura Bros. formed the trading and decorating company in 1876 which evolved into Noritake.  Noritake Company has a rich history of producing porcelain china all the way from  January 1, 1904 when the Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd - the forerunner to the present Noritake Company - was formed in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan with its huge kaolin clay sources.  The first reported U.S. registry for a Noritake backstamp for importing is 1911.  The backstamp on this piece is the gold M-in-Wreath Mark with Noritake on the top.  Under that is "Japan".  In Collecting Noritake A to Z Art Deco & More, David Spain shows that Noritake substituted Japan for Nippon in their backstamps starting in 1918.  Spain identifies this mark as #47.2 which was used 1933-1953.  The Goldkin pattern was produced from 1948-1975.  So, the limits the time period for this set to 1948-1953.
