Description: Nippon Hand Painted Purple Floral Raised Gold & Green Urn Circa 1880-1890 Nice antique Japanese porcelain urn. The center of the urn is ivory. The pattern is repeated around the bottom of the urn. Marked NPSK Dow Sie Cot Ure. The NPSK marks were used prior to Japanese porcelain being marked Nippon. Some sources state the mark stands for Nagoya Potteries Shippo Kaisha. Nagoya Potteries began producing European influenced Art Nouveau porcelain pieces for export around 1880. Nippon was the mark used for Japanese porcelain after 1891. It has also been suggested the mark is Shubei Kato & imported by Morimura Brothers Has some wear to the gilding, a chip to the bottom of the lid, and a tight crack extending off the bottom of the lid. Otherwise good condition. Measures approximately 4 7/8 inches wide x 8 7/8 inches tall to the top of the lid finial. This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not affect the display of the piece.
