The original painting (60” x 74”) entitled “Night Game – Yankee Stadium” was painted in 1981 and was given to the Fenimore Art Museum in 2002 by Maurice Cohen of Detroit. A significant part of Fasanella's childhood was in the Bronx, not far from Yankee Stadium. His father was a local iceman and the young Ralph played stickball and baseball there. Fasanella returned to the Bronx in the 1960s, when he and two friends ran a gas station near the stadium. A great many of Fasanella’s paintings focus on the joys and hardships of working-class Americans. “Night Game – Yankee Stadium” is about thousands of working people of all races sharing baseball together.
