Description: NICHOLAS II, EMPEROR OF RUSSIA ENTERING MOSCOW FOR HIS CORONATION CELEBRATIONS OF 9 MAY 1896 Emperor Nicholas II, accompanied by his retinue, passes by the stands with viewers along Tverskaya Street on the day of the solemn entry into Moscow of their imperial majesties. Nicholas II is mounted on a horse at the front of the procession, with his right hand raised in a salute. He is followed by a large group of mounted soldiers and officials. The road is lined with soldiers and there is a crowd of spectators in front of the buildings to the right. The coronation of Nicholas II, Emperor of Russia was held at the Kremlin on the 26 May 1896. The celebrations lasted for several weeks and were attended by many foreign royals and dignitaries. Czar Nicholas was forced to abdicate in 1917 following the Russian Revolution. He and the Czarina, their son and four daughters were murdered by the Bolshevists July 6, 1918 in Ekaterinburg. Vintage original photograph cca 1899. The mount size is 34 x 25 cm.
