Description: This is a US M1857 .69 Caliber (Rifled Musket) Cartridge Box marked with the stamp of the J.A. Baker company (the New York firm chosen to supply the 79th NY Volunteer Infantry.) This .69 caliber box is indicative of the NY makers in that the waist belt straps are set wider apart then the model provided by the Army. True to the originals, no rivets are used in construction on either the rear belt loops or on the closure strap. The box is correctly rigged for wear on either the belt or use of the shoulder sling. The pattern for these boxes was cut from a set of original patterns (meaning once removed?) If you are looking for machine stitched, cheap, imported copies, keep looking, such is not here! All items are made in a small one-man, veteran operated, shop using American leather and parts (no foreign stuff here!)(This is not my day job either, so I can provide items cheaper than the big boys, like this one for instance.) Shop prices, check my feedback, then bid with confidence. Most items ship next day via USPS. "THIS AIN'T NO MUSEUM, THIS STUFF IS FOR SALE!"
