Description: New Street from High Street end, photogravure print from 1897. This etching originally appeared in the Victorian history book The Making of Birmingham, where it was reproduced by the photogravure process. I recently replaced my well-worn copy of the book, which over the decades had lost its spine and front board, and broken stitching. Many of the illustrations within were still good and I've kept a few for myself to frame and hang, and the rest appear as this and other auctions. Each paper sheet is 197 x 275mm with minimal foxing / spotting and light discolouration to the edges and no obvious tears or wear. Some will appear with captions which is ideal for framing, but also with page numbers and the book's title at the top of the page. If you get the print framed, you can use a matte to hide the extra text. As such, they are ideal for framing. I have included a photo of each illustration framed by a black matte (ie a bevel-edged rectangular window in black card) to show how this might look when framed. Please not, the matte (or frame) doesn't appear in the sale! I'll post these well protected in a poly sleeve and nice, strong board-backed envelope. I'm happy to post multiple wins together. The prints are priced to sell but please make me an offer. I live in Moseley, Birmingham if you want to collect.
