There are 6 strands and the necklace can be worn with them just hanging or twisted for a different look. The necklace is not as heavy as it appears. If you look closely, the turquoise chips are strung on metallic string of some sort. The clasp is sterling and is marked 925 and there is a silver hang tag marked LUC 925. To me, this necklace is in excellent preowned condition. Nice enough to give as a gift or simply add to your growing jewelry collection. You could easily dress it up or down. I have not cleaned or polished the necklace as I know some folks like the patina. I leave any cleaning up to the discretion of the buyer. Thanks so much for looking!
