Space Shuttle Discovery launched in September 1988, the first mission undertaken after the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in January 1986. It was known as the "Return to Flight" mission. OASIS stands for Orbiter Experiments Autonomous Supporting Instrumentation System which recorded environmental data on the orbiter and the TDRS payload during various inflight phases.
