Description: NASA JPL Mission To Jupiter Galileo NIMS Earth 2 Encounter CD GO_1103 V1 -- Spectral Image Cubes and Browse Products Volume 3 S/C Clock 1632665 to 1655420 In good condition. New and still sealed. Please see detailed photos. This is the third CD-ROM volume to contain Galileo Near Infrared MappingSpectrometer (NIMS) Spectral Image Cubes. It was generated by the NIMSteam in collaboration with the Planetary Data System (PDS) and theMultimission Image Processing System (MIPS) for distribution to thevarious Galileo project investigators, and to the community of planetaryscientists. This volume is the result of systematic processing of Experiment DataRecords (EDRs) acquired by the NIMS instrument during Galileo's secondEarth/Moon encounter. Earlier volumes in this series covered the Venusencounter and the first Earth/Moon encounter; further volumes willcontain cubes from the Gaspra and Ida asteroid encounters and the variousencounters of Jupiter and its satellites beginning in December, 1995. (NIMS EDRs are archived in a separate CD-ROM series.) The Galileo NIMS instrument is an imaging spectrometer which covers thespectral range 0.7 to 5.2 micrometers, measuring both reflected sunlightand emitted thermal radiation in a region not studied by the Pioneer andVoyager spacecraft. Seventeen detectors and a diffraction grating operateto produce spectra over as many as 408 wavelengths. A secondary mirrorscans through 20 positions in the cross-cone direction at each gratingstep to produce a swath of data. The scan platform on which theinstrument is mounted is commanded in the cone and clock directionsto conduct extensive mapping observations over the target. A completedescription of the NIMS instrument and scientific objectives is providedin the article "NEAR-INFRARED MAPPING SPECTROMETER EXPERIMENT ON GALILEO",R. W. Carlson et al., Space Science Reviews v. 60 p. 457-502, 1992.A digital preprint of this article is included on this CD-ROM in theDOCUMENT.NIMSINST directory. Additional information about NIMS maybe found on the NIMS home page of the World Wide Web, by following linksfrom the Galileo home page (http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/galileo/).
