Description: Feast your eyes on the inside of this magnificent NAD 3130. The power supply caps have been upgraded to nichicon, Rubycon, ELNA, and Panasonic. The audio caps have all been upgraded to nichicon FW and Fine Gold, with the following exceptions; WIMA Film at the Phono Preamp input (from the phono cartridge) WIMA Film at the Control Amp input (from the line level inputs) Vishay Film in the Tone Control Filters nichicon MUSE BP at the Tone Filter output nichicon MUSE BP at the Control Amp output (PRE_OUT) The Power Amps have been Souped Up with the Toshiba C5200/A1943 15 Amp Output Transistors that NAD uses in their newer C series amplifiers. They can easily handle the higher +40V/-40V Main voltage Rails from the 8 ohm HIGH Impedance setting, making the 3130 capable of providing more power than the original 3020 and other 3020 models including the 3220/3225 PE. For an even greater PUNCH, I upgraded the Main Power 4 amp Bridge with a new 8 amp Bridge and boosted the Main Caps up from 6800uF to a set of Rubycon 10,000uF. This beauty is ready to play! I added the electronic muting components (1 transistor, 1 resistor like in the 3225PE) so that it mutes properly with external Power On/Off control (smart switch, "The Clapper", etc.). I upgraded the offset trimmers to multi-turns for more accurate and stable adjustments. I also installed multi-turn trimmers at the RX1, RX2 bias adjustments, and then realigned the souped up power amps. For greater longevity, I've increased a resistor in the preamp power supply and upgraded it from 1 watt to 2 watt to dissipate more heat and relieve its pass transistor from overheating any longer. You can see the discoloration of the board under the transistor in the photos. It runs much "cooler" now. All controls, buttons, and switches have been cleaned and operate smoothly. Cosmetically, this unit is in excellent condition except for some minor imperfections along the top of the front panel and a tiny chip off the bottom corner.. Please see photos. Please message me with any questions, corrections, etc. ******* Chapter Two ******* The NAD 3130 is a glorious combination of the original Power Amp design from the 3020 Series 20, the low-noise Phono Preamp from the 3020A with an MC/MM gain switch, and a new single Op-Amp Control Amp design that NAD used going forward with Bass, Treble, Loudness, Infrasonic Filter, and Bass_EQ. The BASS_EQ nicely enhances the low end of almost any set of speakers. 3130 and 7130 owners PLEASE NOTE: While I have set the impedance switch of this 3130 to 8 ohms to maximize the available voltage headroom and dynamic range, I would encourage all NAD 3130 and 7130 owners to set their impedance switch to 4 ohms. This reduces the MAIN supply from 80 Volts to about 64 Volts which stays within the "safe area" of the original transistors, making them less likely to short out. I see this failure much too often.
