Description: MZ Moritz Zdekauer 3 Legs Hair Receiver Powder Bowl 1884-1910 Hand Painted Roses Exquisite Decorative MZ Moritz Zdekauer, Hand Painted Set of HAIR RECEIVER & POWDER BOWL, Cabbage PINK ROSES w/GREEN LEAVES & Bud, from Altrohlau Porcelain Factories Austria, circa 1884-1910 DESCRIPTION: This features both a hair receiver and a powder bowl, each of which has 3 legs on a 2 handled bowl. These were hand painted (by artist A. B. Yy.) with pink roses with darker centers connected by green leaves on both lids. The lid paintings are enhanced by washes that vary from light green to pink to blue to purple. The bowls are decorated only by the washes. The smooth rims, the applied handles and the applied feet are painted in a bright, bold gold. See the photos. CONDITION: The condition of this decorative covered set is good. We can find no defects and 2 instances of damage. One bowl has one of the handles knocked off and skillfully glued. See photo #5. The lid of the powder bowl has a small nick on the handle which knocked off a small piece of the gold paint. This is visible only from the back of the lid. See photo #10. There is no rubbing to the gold. There are no chips, other nicks, other cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The bowls are 4 1/4" handle to handle" with a height of 2 1/8". The bowls have a maximum diameter 3 3/4." The maximum height of the powder bowl is 3 1/8". HISTORY/MARKS: In 1884, Moritz Zdekauer purchased the factory in Altrohlau, Bohemia Austria that had been started in 1810 by Benedikt Hasslacher. Thbowl with the lid in place is e letters “MZ” have been a continuous part of the logo to the current day including being on the factory building today. In 1909, C. M. Hutschenreuther acquired the company naming it Altrohlauer Porzellanfabriken (Altrohlau Porcelain Factories) while changing the mark, but retaining the MZ designation. After having been nationalized in 1945, the company was again privatized in 1992 and is currently known as Starorolský Porcelán Moritz Zdekauer a.s., located in Stará Role, Czech Republic. As was true with the original MZ porcelain, all of the Hutschenreuther Companies were trend setters of high quality porcelain. Hutschenreuther became known for the love of detail, distinctive brilliance of color, and lustrous beauty shown through the decorating of the fine porcelain pieces. From the website marks4ceramics, the mark on the bottom of the set is identified as mark #3 which was used in the 1884-1910 time period.
