Description: The paintings of Myla Bertinot have a wonderful sense of mysticism combined with powerful realism. She graduated in 1975, from the University of Texas with a BFA in painting, and in 1979, from the University of Houston with a Masters Degree in Clinical Social work. She has been selected to appear in the forthcoming New American Paintings catalogue, Western Competition, the publication of which coincides with the opening of this exhibition. She divides her time between her work as a psychotherapist and her painting. Bertinots subjects are treated in a highly detailed and sophisticated manner and her use of intense color and foreboding skies leave the viewer slightly unsettled, as dreams might leave the sleeper. Her exceptional technique make these memories vivid and alive before our eyes.I have been painting and drawing most of my life. Inspiration for my paintings comes from dreams and fragmented early memories EDUCATION1975 - University of Texas, B.F.A, Painting and Photography Graduated Summa Cum Laude1979 - University of Houston, Masters Degree, Clinical Social WorkEXHIBITIONS2013 - ArtHouston Group Exhibition, Harris Gallery, Houston, TX2008 - Upstairs Group Exhibition, Harris Gallery, Houston, TX2008 - Dramas, Real and Imagined, Williams Tower Gallery, Houston, TX Curator: Sally Sprout2006 - ArtHouston 2006, Harris Gallery, Houston, TX2005 - ArtHouston 2005, Harris Gallery, Houston, TX2003 - Myla Bertinot & Charles Ford, Harris Gallery, Houston, TX2001 - Myla Bertinot & Robert McCoy, Williams Tower, Houston, TX Curator: Sally Sprout2000 - Myla Bertinot, Katherine Alexander & Anne S.
