Description: The ‘Hihokan’ (Museum of Erotica) emerged in Japan in the 1960s as a place of entertainment for adults. At the time, the country was experiencing an unprecedented boom and diversification in tourism. The erotic installations were staged in a variety of elaborate ways. ‘Hihokan’ means “House of Hidden Treasures” in Japanese – a treasure trove of objects, artefacts, and artworks brimming with curiosity and creativity. Kyoichi Tsuzuki has documented many of these museums over the years. Presented here is an extensive series of selected photographs which examines their appeal. 448 p, ills colour & bw, 13 x 18 cm, pb, Japanese/English
