Description: MULAN Mushu Cri-Kee Looking Down Mountain at Huns Pencil Layout Drawing 1998 MULAN Mushu Cri-Kee Looking Down Mountain at Huns Pencil Layout Drawing 1998 Click images to enlarge Description Mulan, original pencil layout drawing of Mulan, with Mushu and Cri-Kee next to her, looking down the mountain at the Huns about to enter the Imperial City, used in the production of the 1998 Walt Disney animated feature film Mulan, about 8 by 4 1/2 inches on a 13 by 10 1/2 inch sheet of animation paper, in very good condition (the lower right corner is wrinkled and tanned). The drawing is unsigned but was drawn by Tom Shannon, the lead layout artist in Burbank on Mulan, who worked at Disney for over 20 years as a layout artist in story development and was responsible for creating the visual scenes in which Mulan overcame her despair after seeing the Huns entering the Imperial City and decided to warn the Emperor. Tom Shannon's job was normally to develop visual story elements to complement the written script including the design of details in characters and backgrounds before the final script was approved and animation began. He worked on many Disney films including Aladdin, Atlantis:The Lost Empire, Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Lion King, and Mulan. This drawing comes from an estate sale of Tom Shannon conducted several years ago. Some of Tom's artwork is included in The Art of Mulan written by Jeff Kurtti.
