Description: This is a rare March 3rd, 1929 broadside (single page playbill) from the fifth week of the Henry Duffy Players' production of the WINCHELL SMITH and FRANK BACON comedy "LIGHTNIN'" at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, California. (The Original Broadway production opened August 26th, 1918 at the Gaiety Theatre in New York City and closed August 27th, 1921 after 1291 performances, at the time the longest running show in Broadway history.) ..... The play starred PERCY POLLOCK as "Lightnin' Bill Jones" and the cast included TOM KANE, JOHN BECK, ROBERT KEITH, WILLIAM MACAULEY, Miss EDNA MAY COOPER, Miss MILDRED PAVER, Miss NORMA DREW, FRANK THORNTON, Mrs. FRANK BACON, EDWARD McWADE, CHARLES E. EVANS, GEORGE SPELVIN, Miss ANN LITTLE, Miss EUGENIA CUYLER, Mr. J. RAYMOND BROWN, Miss BESSIE BACON, Miss MARIE DUNKEL, WILLIS MARKS, DONALD CAMPBELL and Miss HELEN McKAY ..... Side note: The Original Broadway production of "LIGHTNIN'" was the first production in Broadway history to surpass 1000 performances. That record was broken in 1925 by Anne Nichols' "ABIE'S IRISH ROSE" which would become the first Broadway production to play more than 2000 performances, finishing on October 22nd, 1927 with 2327 performances ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a small tear in the bottom edge, creasing at the top and slight discoloration, this rare broadside is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
