Description: Early Vase by Monkeys of Melbourne, from the first year of production in 1984. SIip cast and painted by hand, it is 14cm high and 16cm wide, with painted mark to base 'Monkey '84'. In perfect condition, bright and vibrant postmodern geometric designs under high gloss glaze. Monkeys of Melbourne was a ceramics company established in 1984 by Wendy Cochran and Shane Kennedy in Bank Street, South Melbourne. The company expanded to shopfronts in Glenhuntly Road, Elsternwick and Chapel St, Prahran. In the 1990s, they began producing licensed characters such as Micky and Minny Mouse and the Phantom in ceramics and glassware. The company closed in 1999.
