Description: ITEM DESCRIPTION:This beautiful and very rare LP from RCA Victor (LM-1790, US pressing, plum label, mono) features legendary violinist Mischa Elman in album pairing works by Tchaikovsky with Wieniawski. Recorded at RCA Victor Studio No. 2, New York, in September and October 1952, Elman is partnered by his long-time accompanist Joseph Seiger. The exact program is as follows: Side 1 Tchaikovsky:Song without Words in FScherzo Op. 42 No. 2Andante cantabile, from the String Quartet Op. 11Valse sentimentale Op. 51 No. 6Valse, from the Serenade for Strings Op. 48None but the Lonely Heart Op. 6 No. 6Russian Dance Side 2 Wieniawski:Légende Op. 17Mazurka in D Op. 19 No. 2Mazurka in G Minor Op. 12 No. 2Mazurka in A Minor Op. 3Polonaise Brillante in D Op. 4 The liner notes on the reverse side, printed in English only, were written by James Lyons. The cover design is uncredited. CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor. The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT and is in remarkably fine shape. There are no seam splits, tears or other defects; only a tiny bit of writing to the lower rear panel. Overall, the album remains solid and bright – a very handsome collector's copy. The condition of the LP itself is VERY GOOD. Visually, there are surface marks and a couple of visible scratches, though really only one of them sounds. This occurs in the Tchaikovsky Scherzo, during which a tic can be heard for a few revolutions. Elsewhere there is occasional light surface noise and some peak distortion. Really, however, the sound is quite impressive – Elman sounds as though he's standing about 5 or 6 feet away from you and his violin is clear as a bell. If you must have NM surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a very good collector's copy. PAYMENT: Payment should be made within 5 days.
