Description: "Miro's Dream IV" Today's featured work is a new and continuation piece in the recent Joan Miro inspired series entitled "Miro's Dream," - this is work IV.It is designated as a Compositional Surrealist || Abstract Painting. This work was created using Oil Pastel and Gouache on a 30 x 48" Canvas. Series Overview:Being a longtime studier and admirer of Joan Miro's work, I have spent many hundreds of hours working in similar areas of art that Miro did. Miro's Compositional Abstract and Surrealist works (along with Arshile Gorky's) have always weighed heavy on me. Their work is revered for some of it's unique artistic construction qualities: - Conceptual Integrity and Creativity- Balanced Structural Weight and Design- Spacial Balance || Imbalance- Color Coordination and Balance - Simplicity of the Overall Conveyance* (Certain Works*)I have always admired Miro for these artistic qualities, and as well others. One trait that he had as well as Gorky, Picasso, and as well myself, - is the unique ability to conceive, extract, and then build. There have been and are today, many talented artists in this world. Many that have one of these traits or maybe even two...but to have all three is yet another thing. To be able to conjure purely amazing fantasies in your mind, and then reach in your mind and pull them out and build.. - it is another level of creative ability. I will talk now for just a few minutes about a couple of the above listed (and needed) qualities for a successful piece. These special attributes are what make a compositional abstraction "work."Spacial Balance or Imbalance: Without this integral aspect the work falls flat on it's face. I start with this one because it is one of the most important. It is also (I believe) in innate gift for an artist, and not easily (if at all..) learned. Miro had it, Gorky had it, and Kandinsky had it as well. When you take a look at my painting below "Miro's Dream" think of this attribute. Although the work bodes an intricate abstracted design, there is a fundamental balance to everything within the piece. If you think this is easy to do, it is not. Creating unique abstracted designs and then placing them within a large composition like this all the while achieving perfect harmony and balance in the piece is an art to itself. Calculated Imbalance: Though entirely different than what is executed in the piece shown today, it is yet another way to conceive of an abstract compositional work. In this case, a perfect visual imbalance in construction is employed to achieve a desired takeaway. We will discuss this design theory another time and with another work. Conceptual Integrity and Creativity: The creative concept and design basis for a painting must also be powerful and unique to make the piece work. Though to some in abstract compositional art it may appears things are completely random, it is not. Actually, it takes a special intellectual tool-set and a highly focused and trained mind to create art like this. One must understand that the imagery must be highly unique and stimulating for the human mind to want to keep coming back to it. Many times, as in this painting, I use subliminal imagery including anthropomorphic tools to captivate my audience. In this and other works I institute a variety of surreal or abstracted forms that I know will affect the viewer. Many (or even most) times I would also say that these images are seen without the viewers even discerning what they're seeing or understanding that I (the artist) have controlled their take-away.There is much more to talk about within this one piece, and as well within the creation of a captivating Compositional Abstract || Surrealist artwork. For today though, let's table it at this point. I ask you now all to enjoy this small tidbit of information and equally to enjoy your overall viewing experience with this painting.I would also suggest coming back to look at this artwork from time to time as I guarantee it will hit you a little differently each time. With each new visit you will see this painting in a new and different way, with new imagery abounding with each viewing.
