General Gallieni was a French military commander and administrator in the French colonies and also played an important role during the World War I. Ref :Eng1559.1 This medal is not a re-strike. Engraver Auguste Maillard, born in Paris 11 June 15 18 641 and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine August 19, 1944, is a French sculptor. Auguste Maillard trained as a sculpture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris Alexander Falguire workshop. Thereafter, it becomes in turn a professor at the School of Fine Arts. It offers numerous memorials for French cities, memorials and busts of figures. He exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists from 1885 to the Winter Fair in 1942, 1943 and 1944. He died during the fighting of the Liberation in 1944, hit by a stray bullet while he was on the threshold of his home in Neuilly-sur-Seine.
