It has been described as the "most beautiful musical work ever written about the Holocaust",[5] and as "an exquisite, haunting and passionate melody that moves Kambanellis' affecting words to an even higher level". The ballad is considered as possibly the greatest work of Theodorakis, while the "Song of Songs" has been described as "one of the finest songs Theodorakis has ever written".
