Description: Midnight V2 Custom Tunable low D Irish Tin penny whistle handcrafted by Nick Metcalf in upstate NY USA for Irishwhistle.com This is the second version of the midnight low D. The first one I made all out of black delrin, but it took a very long time to make. So this model I developed with the used of black PVC and Delrin. The “black” PVC is really a dark grey, but it makes for a fantastic whistle and machines almost identical to Delrin with great tonal qualities. The tuning slide on this model is very nice as I can precision machine the material so the pieces fit together perfectly and there is no need for teflon tape or o rings or anything. When the slide is all the way in the seam is nearly invisible. The sound is really nice having the classic low whistle sound, decent back pressure, a strong low end and still easy to play up to the 3rd octave. This whistle has a beautiful hand painted finish with Celtic knotwork in a subtle and classy chameleon holographic paint job. I really love the dark look and when you look at it in the sun it sparkles and shimmers and the color changes depending on the angle you look at it. This whistle has been individually hand tuned to concert pitch A440 at 68•F I have been making whistles since 1998 and have been perfecting my designs over the years as I have made and sold over 15,000 instruments.
