Description: Aldo Londi(1911-2003) a painter, sculptor and primarily ceramist. He created objects that are still part of the history of Italian ceramics. Born in Montelupo Fiorentino, at 11 yrs old he began working for Fanciullacci’s manufacturing, where he would learn the traditional techniques in pottery making. After the war,Londi continued his work and became Art Director for the famous Bitossi family ceramics studio in Montelupo. Londi’s new style, under the Bitossi family experienced a sudden transformation. He produced and became known for the high quality hand crafted ceramics. He designed his most famous lines of pottery such as ‘Rimini blu’, ‘Mondrian’, ‘Lobster’, ‘Sivilla’ and ‘Etrusca’. His lines were distributed widely in the United States by Raymor Company, which was one of the most influential importers and distributers of modern decorative arts during the middle of the twentieth century. Today this beautiful blue green vase, is part of the Rimini Blu collection. ( circ. 1955-1965) This now-iconic midcentury modern series encompasses over 150 different designs, all glazed in vibrant blue and embossed with abstract motifs and shapes. This original measures approx. 12” in height with a 4.75 “ diameter. The piece is in very good condition with only one very minor paint chip on vase lip ( see photo) this doesn’t detract or take away from this spectacular piece. Running your finger around the lip - the structure is intact only a chip of the glaze has come off. This is a beautiful iconic Londi piece !
