Description: Thomas H. Miller (1914-2001), a Rochester N.Y. resident, distinguished watercolor artist and watercolor teacher painted this "Gloucester Harbor" watercolor scene in the mid-1980’s. Tom Millers career began at Kodak where he taught color photography and co-authored the book “This Is Photography”. It was this love that led him to watercolor painting. On vacation in Cape Ann, Massachusetts, in the early 1950’s’ he became best friends with Carl W. Peters who quickly became his mentor. After the passing of Mr. Peters, Tom became even more dedicated to watercolor painting. He continued lessons with well-known artists such as Zygmund Jankowski, Robert E. Wood and Tony Van Hasselt. He became friends with Emile Groupe and traded paintings. He began teaching painting at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester as well as to hundreds of students/friends in his home studio. When asked for one word to describe his work, Miller stated without hesitation “Colorist!” He exhibited his works at the Memorial Art Gallery Finger Lakes exhibit and many galleries in New York. His appreciation for photography and art transformed his interest in the preservation of historic buildings and churches throughout New England. He rarely sold his paintings, since, like so many artists, he liked the painting process and friendships most. Unframed. Dimensions 22”x30”
