Sep 11, 1943) is an American percussionist & musicologist, best known as 1 of the 2 drummers of the rock band Grateful Dead from ’67-‘71 & again from ‘74 -‘95. The Grateful Dead was an American rock band formed in ’65, which came to prominence during the counterculture of the ‘60s. The band is known for its eclectic style, which fused elements of rock, folk, country, jazz, bluegrass, blues, gospel & psychedelic rock; for live performances of lengthy instrumental jams; & for its devoted fan base, known as "Deadheads". These influences were distilled into a diverse & psychedelic whole that made them "the pioneering Godfathers of the jam band world".
