Description: MEXICO OAXACA BLANCO FAMILY PASTILLAJE APPLIQUÉ WHITE CLAY SIGNED AVELINO BLANCO 5.75 inches tall 4.5 inches diameter Signed by Avelino Blanco This vintage Mexican pottery vase or jar is simple-unglazed and without any added color yet ornate in that it consists of flowers in which every petal and part is a hand-shaped piece of clay. This style is the hallmark of the famed Blanco family of Oaxaca, the matriarch of which was Teodora Blanco (1928- 1980), and this piece was made by Avelino Blanco. The type of decoration you see in the vase was pioneered by the Teodora and carried on by her son and other family members. It is called "pastillaje," and refers to the smaller pieces of clay superimposed on the surface of a figure to create patterns or add elements. There is a flaw or flea bite on the rim. Please see last picture.
